Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment of COVID-19 consists of supportive care and symptom management. Take the same medications you would for any other viral, upper respiratory infection. Examples include expectorants for cough and NSAIDs or acetaminophen for fever. Be sure to get plenty of rest and fluids.

When to Seek Emergency Medical Attention

If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Bluish lips or face
  • Any symptoms that are severe or concerning to you
